Hi,

I need to understand if sepsis= Critical care. If my provider documents sufficiently, with a time statement can sepsis equal critical care? I have a provider whom seems to think so he writes "Patient was septic, met our code sepsis alert guidelines (similar to a STEMI, stroke alert or trauma activation) required immediate abx and fluid resuscitation.... Any thoughts? No failure anywhere.

Sepsis is highly suggestive of critical care, however, provider needs to be performing CC services to code this. Are pt vitals unstable (high BP, heart rate >120, temp >104, elevated lactate, altered mental status?) Is pt receiving multiple fluid bolus, 2 or more IV antibiotics? Read documentation to be sure CC is being performed.
