Why is Medicare charging us a Sequestration fee?

The US Congress requires Medicare to do it by law - it's one of many measures the government has taken to attempt to cut expenses in order to reduce the Federal budget deficit.

Sequestration has been in place since April 1, 2013 as a result of the Budget Control Act of 2011.

It was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, but resumed after April 1, 2022. (1% from April 1, 2022 - June 30, 2022, and the full 2% resumed on July 1, 2022.)
