Hello - I am in need of assistance. I bill for a psychiatric provider that typically treats patients in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The majority of the facilities have an NPI number so we don't have any problems. Recently the provider has contracted with a few facilities that do not have an NPI because they do not accept Medicare and are strictly Self Pay facilities. We have tried billing with the assisted living facility CPTs with POS 13 and 14 and we continue to get rejections for not having the service location NPI. We do seem to be getting payments when we bill with the home visit CPTs and POS 12. Does anybody have any experience with this type of situation or have any knowledge as to whether or not we are even supposed to bill Medicare for these services if the facility does not have an NPI? Any help is greatly appreciated.
