Our surgeons often have the patients referring optometrist perform the post op care following cataract surgery, we append the 54 modifier to the surgery.
However, we have a patient that had 2 post operative visits with our surgeon and was referred back to their optometrist (outside our practice). We used 54 modifier on the surgery, but I know there's a way to "bill" for the 2 post op visits we performed, I just cannot recall.
