To bill for a shared/split visit the physician must have a face-to-face encounter with the patient, review, and then document his/her portion. My question is, does the shared/split visit follow the same guidelines for "incident to" as far as the physician performing the initial service and establishing a course of treatment? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Incident-to doesn't apply in the hospital setting. If the NP saw the patient alone, then the NP claims the service.
