Per the January 2014 Coding Edge page 18-20, you are not to code 27096- Injection procedure for Sacroiliac joint with 76942- Ultrasonic guidance. It sends you to code 20552- Single or multiple trigger points, 1 to 2 muscles with 76942. When I input this information into Optum Encounder with the diagnosis 724.4, 724.2, or 720.2; I get an invalid diagnosis coded with the 20552. The 724.4, 724.2, and 720.2 is the reason for the SI injection. What diagnosis are we suppose to code with the 20552 to make sure that these are payable for the SI joint injection? We also code 20605, 20610 and 20600, these codes have no NCCI edits with the ultrasound; is the only issue with the SI injection? Are we being routed back to the trigger point injections with these if we use ultrasound?
