Is there any policy from CMS that gives a timeframe as to when a physician needs to sign off on his/her office dictations?

Some physicians may dictate an OV note and have a preliminary report sit for quite some time for any number of reasons before signing off on the document.

CMS signature guidance

CMS says no delay in signature beyond waiting for transcription. I always go right to CMS for my guidance. Like right now, I just googled: CMS provider signature requirements and this awesome fact sheet came up. You should never rely on what other people say. you should always source your research directly from CMS. CMS has lots of tools for research and education so don't be afraid to surf the site and get your feet wet. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
