physician done two lacerations on fingers. First one was 1.4cm and the second one was 1.2 cm. Should it have been coded as:

12001
12001-51

Please Help

thanks
Kim

No it would be 12002, its the same anatomic sites so you would add the lengths together. If one would be simple and the second intermediate then you would code

12041
12001-51

Hope this helps !

I agree w/ 12002(if they are both simple repairs)...

cpt book states "when multiple wounds are repaired, add together the lengths of those in the same classification and from all anatomic sites that are grouped together into the same code descriptor." <-- it's #2 under the repair(closure definition column.. 2009 ama cpt prof ed page 58, bottom left)
