Hi. I hope someone can help me with this... I'm coding Sleep Studies and physician's report stated "No evidence of clinically significant sleep apnea" and there was no "snoring" no additional symptoms were documented. What ICD-10 code should I use for this case?

Hi- I would review the order and see what the diagnosis or symptom the physician documented to qualify the patient for the sleep study was and then verify it is supported by documentation (E/M report). It could have been something along the lines of poor sleep, fatigue, partner observed apneas, etc. if it wasn't snoring. The patient had to have had some sign or symptom to justify medical necessity. If you cannot find a suitable diagnosis, query the physician.

Thank you Kathryn. I reviewed the report but there was nothing! Usually there is at least one symptom or diagnosis but for this case none. So I put Z13.89-Encounter for screening for other disorder- What do you think?
