If a patient becomes angry, rips off all the equipment and walks out after just 2 hrs during a sleep study, can the study be charged? Would a modifer be needed?

What CPT code are you using? I believe there is a note under CPT 95810 that says if the test is under six hours, a -52 modifier may be appended. I'm not in my office so I don't have the book handy. You might also want to check local LCD guidelines for your area.

I know that split studies used to require a 3 hour minimum, I believe that is CPT 95811.
