can anyone tell me the proper code to use when a patient is a smoker....I have seen it used by both codes. Z72.0 or F17.200
 
F code since the word smoker in the index directs you to Nicotine dependence.

While i don't have access to it, its supported by Coding Clinic, Fourth Quarter 2013, page 108
