Can anyone provide direction on billing OB codes for patients who smoke? O99.33- states to use additional code from the F17 range to identify type of tobacco nicotine dependence. However when you look at F17 Excludes 2 indicates O99.33. Will O99.33 be rejected without F17? Most of our providers have not coded nicotine dependence and seem reluctant to do so.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
