I know the smoking cessation codes were just updated. I need to know if a CRT certified respiratory therapist can perform and bill the smoking cessation codes incident to a physician. I have searched and can only find in the Medicare Preventive Services pamplet on smoking cessation that "cessation counseling sessions may be performed incident to the services of a qualified practitioner" it does not specify who can perform it. I know if I call our medicare contractor Cahaba who is supposed to be there for us for guidance I will not get a straight yes or no answer. Thanks.
