I am a snf coder and I have a question regarding aftercare.
According to icd 10, you cannot use codes ending with "d" subsequent care with the aftercare "z"codes. So if a patient has multiple fractures but surgical intervention has been on one fracture but not the rest, do I code the aftercare and the other fractures??
ie a fall resulting in a femur fracture, a humerus fracture , and a lumbar fracture. An ORIF was performed on the femur but the rest are routine healing. Do I code the z47.89 and the applicable codes ending with "D' for the other fractures even though icd 10 states Excludes 1 on these or just the z47.89?
We use the aftercare because they are in our facilities for aftercare.
Please advise.
