A patient goes to the ER with LLQ abdominal pain. The ER doctor will code LLQ pain as encounter diagnosis. Then the ER doc calls for a gastroenterologist consult. Does the gastro doc also code LLQ abdominal pain? And if so who gets paid.
 
ER consult

The GI doc would code whatever his findings are, which may or may not be the same as the ER doc. They should both get paid if billed appropriately.
