Is there anything that says you have to use a neurology specialty exam to code the examination portion of a neurologists notes? Thanks in advance.

No, you can use the 1995 or 1997 guidelines, whichever is most beneficial to the provider. However, if you use 1995 guidelines to score the exam, you have to use those guidelines for the entire note.
