I have a case where a detethering of the spinal cord was done at C3-C5 level, likely caused by previous surgery. The only detethering code I find is 63200, but this is for lumbar. I am new to coding so I'm not sure if I can use 63200 even though it's a different region or if this should be unlisted and use 63200 as the "comp" code? I also would use modifier -52, since the laminectomy wasn't technically done at this surgery.

Just came across this post.. I know it's old. I attended an AANS seminar in 2022. They advised any tethering other than the lumbar area to use an unlisted with a fee from 63200. Because the code specifically says "Lumbar", you should not use it. Hope this helps!! Also, if the patient has one or more lipomas that are excised in the same area, report 63277 only. Code 63200 will be included.
