My surgeon had planned to remove and replace hardware at L5-S1 and revise the prior fusion all in one operative session. Unfortunately, scar tissue caused him to have to go back in the next day and approach from the anterior and then place pedicle screws at the same level, but in a different operative session. Is it technically correct then to code for the removal of the hardware in one operative session and then placement of that hardware then next day since it is a new session? Help is much appreciated.
