When a physician attempts to bill a spinal tap (62270) and an EEG, patient in a coma (95822) they get a CCI edit that this cannot be billed together. The Spinal Tap is the primary procedure and not modifier is allowed. Is there a coder out there who explain to me essentially why this is? 95816 & 95819 can be billed with 62270 and my physician wants to know why 95822 cannot.
