When doing a split/shared visit at hospital...a face to face encounter with the doc needs to be done, and at least one element needs to be documentated, however if the midlevel documents a level 2 exam, and mdm of moderate complexity, but the doctor lists a detailed interval history with a moderate decision making but notes that the patient was asleep on rounds and not awakened. Can I still bill a shared visit?
your input helps :)
thanks!

I do not think so the physician must have documentation of a face to face encounter with the patient, seeing a sleeping patient does not qualify as a face to face encounter.
