I have a situation where the surgeon did an I&D of a superficial abscess with packing (no closure) then takes patient back to OR next day for removal of packing and delayed primary closure. He has documented this is a staged procedure however as I am thinking of codes to utilize all codes would include closure. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to properly code for appropriate reimbursement? Thanks.:confused:

What codes are you thinking of using. Have you considered the -52 modifier on the first procedure (since he planned to do something "less" than the full procedure, which typically includes closure.)
