I work for an Ophthalmic ASC in which 13 of our sugeons are co-owners. After reading the April issue of Coding Edge, I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with.
First, does the DHS coding category of inpatient and outpatient hospital services apply for ambulatory surgery centers? Secondly, the ownership/investment exemption only specifies a hosptal. From what I understand of the ownership/investment exemption it states that if a physician has ownership to a certain area of the hospital and not to the entire hospital as a whole, the physician would be exempt and be able to perform services in that hospital. What if the physician has ownership/investment in the ASC?

Thanks for any feedback..
