Hello,

I am not sure about this one and need some help....the patient had a Hartmann's procedure on 8/11/09 and went back into the OR on 9/23/09 for an I & D for a non-healing abdominal wound.

Can this I & D be billed out or is it still in the global period??

When a procedure within the global necessitates a return to the OR you may bill with a modifier, either 58 or 78 in this case. I would go with the 78.
