I am working in a critical care access hospital. I do the coding for our hospitalists.

We have what is called “swing bed”, which is located in SNF. Our surgeons discharge their patients from acute care after their surgery, and admit them to swing bed for rehab. The patients are still in the hospital and our hospitalists want to see them everyday just as they do if they were an inpatient. Are SNF subsequent days billable for Swing Bed? I'm new at this type of billing and my supervisor does not know for sure either. The Dr's insist that they can do this but before I bill them I want to know for sure!

Any information would be helpful!
Thanks!
Jen
