Wiki Subsequent or Discharge Code

Doctor A saw the patient in the morning, he mentioned that the patient may be discharged later on that evening. Doctor B attested to the Resident who completed the discharge summary, but did not evaluate the patient. Would I bill a subsequent visit or a discharge code for Doctor A?

If it is a subsequent code will it be okay if the patient does not have a discharge code?

Please Help!!!:confused:
 
Hi,

We cannot code both subsequent and discharge care code on single day,code either subsequent or discharge care only.If the patient is admitted to the hospital initial/subsequent and discharge codes are mandatory.here the discharge service code is mandatory to indicate the patient is dicharged.The fee schedule for discharge care is higher than subsequent care,we can code a discharge service alone.
