I realize that Medicare does cover some supplies, but most supplies like wraps and braces are not covered. We have a situation where we have Medicare patients who also have a secondary insurance. The secondary insurance won't cover most supplies either.

In this situation, if we have the patient sign an ABN, and we bill Medicare and the secondary for the supply and both deny the claim, can we then bill the patient for the supply?

My understanding is that an ABN isn't needed for services that Medicare does not cover at all. Can we bill a Medicare patient for supplies? Is an ABN needed?

Please advise.
