Hello,
I need some insight on this. Pt comes in for for a fracture. We bill out fracture care for the 1st visit. Two weeks later it is determined that surgery is needed to repair/reconstruct. Do we still go by the date of the fracture care for the post op period? Or does it start over again when the patient has surgery?
 
It is my understanding that the global period does NOT start over. When you take a patient to the OR during a global you have to add mod 78- this mod reduces your payment from the ins. co. they only pay for the "interoperative" portion of the surgery.
