We have a patient that was not immediately notified of the need for surgery. Our dr is willing to do the surgery for free due to the communication error. The patient requested we bill her insurance (not one we are contracted with) and accept their payment as payment in full. What are everyone's thoughts on this? If the dr is willing to do the surgery for free wouldn't it violate something by billing insurance and just accepting what they pay and not bill the patient??
