One of our urologists did a joint case with a general surgeon which involved removal of bladder, prostate and rectum en bloc and an end proximal transverse colostomy,
no ileal conduit done. diagnosis -locally advanced bladder carcinoma involving the entire pelvis..I'm thinking 51597 but not sure..any help much appreciated
Thanks,
Rebecca

If the general surgeon helped with the urology part of the case, it would be best to contact the surgeon's coder on what diagnoses and CPT codes they were going to use and if they are using the 62 modifier. A copy of the operative reports should be able to show insurance who did what. If this is a Medicare plan put in box 19 "ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST." Make a reminder or ledger note what was going on to help the billing department to know what information needs sent.
