Is post-surgical nutritional counseling considered "typical post-operative care" following bariatric surgery procedures? The hospital wants to provide this type of counseling/education free for patients who have had this surgery, and I am trying to see if this is allowed.

Thank you!

Lance

Codes used

Specifcally, I am asking this question about the Medical Nutrition Therapy codes 97802, 97803 and 97804. If an RD is providing these services, it would be from an order by a referring physician. If the RD is a hospital employee (not emplyed by the surgeon) and the patient had the surgery at the hospital, would this fall under the hospital's surgical package?
