My doc final dx is suture removal. I coded it as 99024 v58.32. My auditor states I cannot code it at that CPT because the Dr did not state it was a global visit. Can you tell me the correct way to code this situation.

Pt post op visit for wound check- post op 7 days upper back
sutures intact, clean and moist.
Post op exam: Normal, dressing removed dry
Sutures removed.
Follow up in Derm clinic if needed

DX. Suture Removal

it does state it's a global, because it's only been 7 days since the sutures were placed. UNLESS the procedure didn't have a 10 day global,???? I'm assuming (there I go again, assuming), your provider placed them... and since we know the procedure has a 10 day global and stitches were removed within the global - ......hmmmmmmmm - well, where I learned to count 7 days is less than 10.
ask your auditor how much clearer it needs to be then?

(well, maybe you shouldn't ask that) ;)

1st I would like to know what procedure the Dr done that is in question. The only thing I have seen my Dr's do different is they just write N/C on the ticket instead of 99024. Usually the 99024 code is used with V58.7_ . therefor maybe it is the CPT code clashing with the V58.32. Hope that helps somewhat...
