I could use some help. I work for a wound clinic. I need some help with T81.89XA vs L76.81. Which would be used? Most patients have either an open wound or an ulcer after a procedure. If you can lead me in the right direction on where I could find guidelines, I would greatly appreciate it.

T80-T88 are for complications not elsewhere classified. There is an Excludes 2 note at the beginning of T80-T88 that excludes specified complications classified elsewhere, such as: intraoperative and postprocedural complications of specified body systems (L76.-). So unless the T81 code is providing more specific information which T81.89XA is not then I would not code it.
