One of our doctors is going to perform a thoracotomy with takedown of the diaphram. This is needed in order for the orthopedic doctor to be able to do his part in removing a disc. The procedure has not been done yet so I dont have an op note. Our doctors were questioning how much they would be reimbursed for this. We are not sure of the correct code to use as we have never done this procedure, so we don't know what to tell them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When our general surgeons open/close for the ortho service who is performing spinal surgery with an anterior approach, each surgeon uses the appropriate spinal surgery code with a -62 modifier.

Hope that answers your question.
