Has anyone ran into this. We just switched our TIN and most of the insurances have us effective for 10/17/2012 but there are a few others that don't have us effective yet and when they do have us effective they wont be retroing us back to 10/17/2012. So my problem is when we run into claims where the patient has 2 insurances and one insurance is effective with the new TIN on the date of service but the other isn't how do we handle this. Do we just go by what there primary insurance is still showing and let the 2ndary process as out of network?

Request an "Existing Provider Change Form"

Unfortunately, it becomes alot of paperwork when changing Tax ID's and Names of businesses. If you only changed one most payers will ask you to fill out one of their many forms some titled "Existing Provider Change Form." If you changed both, then you will most likely have to start over and complete a whole new agreement as a new provider.

In the meantime, have a sign posted by check in for patients to let them know of changes and that the practice could be out of network and would be responsible for higher cost. I would even add the insurances in a list. One side for In-Network and one for Out-of-network. Send letters or emails to all patients however your policy practice guidelines are handled for changes so patients can check to see if they need to find another practice til you are joined in the network again.
