I know that I should have been taught this in my courses, but my insurance instruction was severely lacking.

Please let me know what a taxonomy code is and if the provider should have more than one like they do for NPIs.

I am dealing with Medicaid claims and want to be sure I have all the codes that I need in the correct boxes before resubmission.

Thanks!!

Taxonomy-type of medical specialty

Hello
Each medical physician and medical business has a taxonomy code. This is linked to the physician's NPI number. Taxonomy codes are related to type of physician -family doctor, therapist, child psychiatrist, OB//GYN doc each has a 10 digit taxonomy code. Go to this web site below since it is manned by CMS-Medicare for types of taxonomy. Also your physician should have one associated with his NPI #.
