I am in need of assistance. I just came across this test that was done at our lab.

Patient had a Positive Quantiferon Gold (blood test)
795.5 can not be used because it states : Nonspecific reaction to tuberculin skin test without active tuberculosis.
I have never come across this before. Can anyone help with this DX code?

thanks
Dorothy

Why was the blood test performed in the first place? V74.1 - special screening for pulmonary tuberculosis. Maybe you could use code 795.79 - Other and unspecified nonspecific immunological findings.

I guess i would then code the tubuclosis. Tuberculosis of the skin is 017.0 or there are other forms listed 010- 018

I wouldn't code TB unless specifically documented by the physician. It could be a false positive or just that the patient was exposed to TB. Nancy H's Dx 795.52 is the best Dx but you can't use it until after 10/1/11 otherwise stick with 795.5 unless otherwise documented by the provider.
