I work for a Pediatric Orthopedic Office and were curious about the insight in Tele-Conference Billing. The Doctors here wanted to know if anyone has tried this and if so what is the reimbursement rate. So far we see that this is going to patient responsibility and insurance are not covering these codes (99441-99443).

Just remember these are communications initiated by the patient, not scheduled by or initiated by the provider or provider office. Such as mom has a child with a cough and two other children recently treated for URI so she contacts the office to talk with the doc about treatment for this child. The reason many payers may chose to not reimburse is these are considered patient decision and not provider driven.

In our Office Some of the MRI Results and treatment plans for pediatric patients post MRI results coming in are initiated by the Providers in our Practice. Our PA or Orthopaedic will get on the phone and explain the results and go over what is the best treatment plan along with when the next Follow up should be. What if the Doctor/PA initiates the phone conference?

Sorry that is not billable and is considered to be part of the complexity of the office visit where the patient presented and the test was ordered.
