Wiki Telehealth Services, CPT's 99441-99443

With all the changes to office visit E&M's using time based coding, is there any affect on the telehealth services? We often have to cross walk the telehealth visits (99441-99443) to an outpatient office visit CPT (99201-99215), and I think that's causing some confusion by the providers. But I have not been able to find anything that clearly states if Telehealth visits are still using MDM coding guidelines.

Not sure I understand your question here. CPT codes 99441-99443 are telephone evaluation codes, not telehealth, and are only coded based on time. These describe different services from E&M visits and the two sets of codes don't 'crosswalk' to each other. The new guidelines apply just to E&M services, and the coding guidelines would be the same, based on documentation, whether they are conducted via telehealth or in person.

Some offices are using the codes (99441-99443) for their Telehealth services. The other way of coding is to change the place of service to your EM's to (02 Telehealth).

If it is a telephone evaluation for a New patient would we still be able to use 99441-99443 or would we have to code 99202-99205 with 02 place of service?
