I have a provider who thinks that if he see's a new patient via telemed, and then see's him for the first time face to face, he can charge for a new patient? I thought that the patient now would be established and therefor only be able to charge for established patient? Is there anyone who knows for a fact one way or another?
 
If the provider is billing a new patient E/M code for the initial telemed visit you are correct that he cannot charge the same E/M code for the subsequent face to face visit, it would have to be a follow up E/M code. The E/M services guidelines are the same whether it is face to face in person, or telemedicine.
