Our office has only ever done telephone only telehealth visits. I have a provider that is stating that we should be billing for OV E/M codes( Per Medicare) and not the telephone codes. Does anyone have clarification on this? Thanks!

Both CPT and HCPCS on the first page of the coding requirements tell you to bill the service that most accurately describes the service being performed. To do otherwise, per Medicare's Program Integrity Manual as well as the False Claims Act is non-compliant. Billing an E&M for a telephone visit was OK during the PHE, but the rules have tightened up. Telehealth visits are under significant scrutiny by the OIG, so it's always best to do the right thing.
