I'm still not clear on the guidelines for coding tendon transfers and I keep getting mixed feedback.

For instance, my doctor performed a ring finger EDC tendon transfer to the middle finger EDC.

When I code for this, am I coding by the origin of the tendon or am I coding by the site of surgery? I want to code this procedure as 26480 because the actual surgery is happening in the dorsum of the hand, but I believe the EDC tendon is considered a forearm tendon, so I'm not sure this is correct.

Does anyone know the proper way code for tendon transfers?
