In coding for peds I see the code V65.5 quite a bit but am always reluctant to use it as I don't know if I am using it correctly. Are there any particular "rules" that apply to using this code? I know a lot depends on the payer but when there definitely is not a dx or symptom that is available to use am I to only use the V code or also use the feared dx with it?

V65.5

Hi,

I'm not sure if there are specific rules of using this code. Can not review since I don't have the books at home right now.

The only time I use this code, is, when a patient comes in with a feared complaint and in the end of the exam, the physician has decided that there the patient is fine.

I hope this helps a little.

Barbara Andrade, CPC :)
