In ICD 9 code set 242.1 and 242.2 stated toxic or with hyperthyroidism. The new E05.1-E05.2 States thyrotoxicosis with toxic single thyroid nodule or toxic multinodular goiter. A patient may have hyperthyroidism with a nodule or multiple nodules but they do not have a toxic nodule. the advice I was give was to use the Hyperthyroidism code with a nontoxic goiter. What do you guys think? Are we contradicting ourselves?
