Has anyone heard of Rounding up time for time based codes? I have been informed that AMA/CPT provided new language for the time based codes. That if a provider documents 65 mins ( for an initial obs care), with greater than 50 % on counseling and or coordination of care that the provider can bill a 99220 (70 minutes) instead of 99219(50 minutes). I am being told that AMA /CPT came out with new language in 2011 that supports the provider can bill the higher code because the 65 mins is closer to the 99220 than the 99219.

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated as I am having a hard time finding any documentation to support this.

Thanks in advance from help from anyone.
