For 2023, we know the 50% portion of the time statement has been removed. Does the provider have to document what was done during coordinating and counseling of care for inpatient services? Outpatient? If they do have to document coordination and counseling of care, is that statment along with the amount of time enough, or do they need to elaborate on what was done during the coordinating and counseling of care? Or is just the amount of time spent suffice with nothing elsein the statment when billing on time?

Hi there, a couple of things:
1. There are nine activities that can be counted toward time if they are performed on the date of the face-to-face encounter. If a practice only counts counseling coordination of care time it could be underpaid.
2. The provider needs to document their work as they have always done, plus the total time they spend. Again, they can count time for other activities and they do not need to detail how much time they spent on each activity.

See your CPT manual for details.
