Time line for patient rights & responsibilities, consent forms and Advance Directives

Hi all!!
Hope someone can help. We had one of our RNs attend a seminar and someone mentioned that the patient or their representatives have adequate time to review Patient Rights & Responsibilites, Consent forms and Advanced Directive paperwork before signing. This makes sense, but she was hearing that Medicare had regulations regarding this issue. Any body hear of that??
thanks

The information that I have been given is that we need to get the information to the Patient 24 hours prior to the surgery start time. And you can send by mail or email. Some of the time the surgeons office will give the patient the paperwork when they are being seen in their office.
