The provider is doing a TKA for a chronic infected knee. There is no previous total knee arthroplasty so not a staged procedure. Not sure how to code this.

Can you send an operative report?
This is not a standard procedure.
Active infection is an absolute contraindication to a TKA.

Debridement and placement of antibiotic spacer but not an implant would be coded as the appropriate debridement/saucerization/sequester to my code and either a code for antibiotic implant or an unlisted code.

Depending on the op note probably: 27310, 20704. If it's an articulating spacer, and then they are waiting for the infection to clear to be able to go back in and explant/implant the final TKA?

However, yes please show the redacted op note. Was there any prior surgery in this joint at all? Any hardware in there?
