Hi Everyone,

I have a case (federal edits) where the surgeon repairs the patella tendon with fibertape as it was already torn prior to surgery (does not state it was a current tear, the documentation seems to steer us to old tear).

I cannot find anything that makes me feel better about using 27447 and 27381. It is the same incision and the repair is augmented by fibertape.

Does anyone have any information on this? Nothing is bundling per the edits and it makes me second guess it.

Thanks for any help

Send operative report? This is nuanced. I'd be -very- skeptical that the patellar tendon was completely torn prior to a TKA - it would be, or should have been, extensively documented, as extensor integrity is a massive issue for successful TKA. If not well documented, you almost have to assume it was iatrogenic, in which case you really would not code for it.
