We are looking at the possibility of doing transfusion in-office, instead of ordering them to a local o/p facility.

Does anyone within an oncology/hematology setting currently provide these services and bill for them?

Any insite or information would be great!!

Thanks,

Transfusion billing

First off, we are a specialty office with lab. We are not facility or o/p.

But most of the billing guidelines I am coming across are for facility or o/p. What I am wanting to know is if these services are reimbursable to '11' location.

And then, how to code out a transfusion. For example, see below. I could have this all mucked up, like I said, I am completely new to transfusion services.

Here is a sample I found that might be close:

36430, Blood transfusion service
P9016 or P9040 or P9058 (only one of these codes would be billed, as it is the type of blood)
86920 or 86922 (only one of these, as this would be the compatibility test)

I believe that the 36430 would be billed with service code 8275.
I also believe that the P codes would be billed with a BL modifier to notate special purchse.
And also, the Revenue code would be 8275 for office based labs-physician.

Any help, suggestions and thoughts would be most apprciated!

Thanks

Is it appropriate to report P-Codes for blood products in unlicensed physician office space? Does anyone have any links to documentation regarding coding/billing transfusions in the physician office? Thanks in advance.
