I am with an Otolaryngology practice in PA and one of our physicians has done a case with a Neurosurgeon. I need some advice regarding coding. They did a transphenoidal pituitary tumor together where our physician opened endoscopically and assisted the neurosurgeon. The neurosurgeon did 62165-62 and our physician said he did 62165-62.

Everything I have read says that 62165-62 is the correct way to bill for these services but according to the CMS fee schedule, CPT 62165 has a payment indicator of 1 and that the assistant surgeon will not be paid.

Is anyone performing and billing for this procedure? Are you being paid or denied?

Any information would be appreciated.
